Job Description

Art Director

We’re looking for an exceptionally talented and empathetic Art Director to lead both creatively and as a manager. At Holden Ellis, it’s not just about what you make—it’s about who you are. You’re ambitious, relentlessly pushing for bold, original ideas, but you balance that drive with humility and a deep commitment to your team. As Art Director, you’ll set the creative bar, mentor designers, and execute top-tier work that pushes the agency forward.

Your expertise in brand and digital will be critical, and your ability to craft stunning, concept-driven creative will be as important as your ability to lead. You’ll own big ideas and high-level execution, guiding projects from inception to polished, industry-leading work. While you’ll lead projects, you’ll also help shape and mentor a team of three designers, ensuring the work consistently meets the highest standards.

If you’re in Columbus (or open to being here), let’s talk. Show us what you’ve got.

What You'll Do:

  • Setting the creative standard—your execution skills will be the benchmark for the team.
  • Leading and mentoring a team of three designers, guiding them in both conceptual thinking and tactical execution.
  • Partnering with the Creative Director to bring new, innovative ideas to brand, digital and campaign work for our clients.
  • Developing high-caliber visual concepts and executing them with precision across a range of projects.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with strategists, developers, and writers to bring creative visions to life.
  • Providing clear, constructive feedback to your team, helping elevate their work and pushing them toward creative growth.
  • Managing multiple priorities with excellent time management, ensuring both your work and your team’s work meets deadlines without sacrificing quality.
  • Contributing to a culture of bold creativity, helping push Holden Ellis forward as a leader in distinct, ambitious creative work.

What You'll Bring:

  • proactive mindset—you go beyond the expected, always looking for ways to push creative forward.
  • 10+ years of experience in design, with a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional branding and digital work.
  • Proven leadership experience, whether mentoring junior designers or formally managing a team.
  • Unmatched execution skills—from concept to final product, your craft is second only to your ambition to do amazing work
  • Mastery of visual storytelling, with a deep understanding of how to translate strategy into compelling design.
  • Passion for mentoring, with the ability to guide designers to stronger ideas and sharper execution.
  • Curiosity for exploring new tools and mediums. Experience with AI is a bonus!
  • Confidence in presenting and articulating creative rationale, both internally and with clients.

Pay Range:

Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000

Perks:

  • 10% Bonus Potential
  • 401k Match
  • Health, Vision and Dental Coverage
  • Unlimited Sick and Vacation Time
  • Hybrid Working
