Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner - Non-Invasive Cardiology - Per Diem. 

Nurse practitioners NP are dedicated to providing quality professional cost effective health care to all patients at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk. At NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk NPs provide services as a licensed independent practitioner LIP collaborating with a licensed physician fulfilling a broad range of medical services that would otherwise be provided by the physician A NP shall be permitted to provide any service within his/her scope of training/skills outlined in the collaborative agreement between the NP and the collaborating physician that has been approved by the Credentials Committee NPs may provide care for all patients throughout the hospital as permitted by their certification and licensure NPs work collaboratively with the patient's physicians assisting in providing high quality care and a well planned timely discharge NPs provide patient centered care as members of interdisciplinary teams emphasizing evidence based practice and accepted standards of care A NP shall document according to the practices included in the Clinical Documentation Initiative CDI NPs with Registered Nurse First Assistant RNFA documentation working in surgery have the primary responsibility of assisting in surgery A NP working in surgery must have a collaborative agreement with a surgeon A NP working in surgery will also perform surgical functions in other areas of the hospital as needed by the surgeons or the Chief PA A NP on the Trauma Team must have privileges to first assist in surgery experience in emergency medicine and current Advanced Trauma Life Support ATLS documentation or acquire it within six months A NP on the Trauma Team may be required to be on call \n

Job Responsibilities:

Assessment and Reassessment of Patients

\n

\n
• Introduces/identifies self as a nurse practitioner 
\n
• Assists the physician with patient management focusing on quality care and a well planned timely discharge
\n
• Communicates professionally and effectively with the patient #39;s physician and as appropriate consulting physicians case managers nurses and other Hospital staff any patient information that may affect discharge or the patient #39;s hospital course
\n
• Performs initial and ongoing assessment/history and physical examination
\n
• Assesses/reassesses patient #39;s condition and care plan
\n
• Orders and interprets tests/results lab radiology ekg etc based on patient need
\n
• Orders medications and treatments
\n
• Documents care in the chart in accordance with hospital policies and procedures
\n
• Formulates diagnoses
\n
• Formulates and implements patient care and treatment plans Discusses patient care and treatment plans expectations needs and any other information with physicians nurses case managers and other hospital staff Uses established Long Island Health Network LIHN guidelines if applicable
\n
• Obtains consents for blood/blood product transfusion CAT scan and MRI contrast administration and for procedures performed by the PA
\n
• Initiates consults with physicians and other hospital staff including those for hospice and palliative care
\n
• Initiates and participates in care related to end of life issues including Do Not Resuscitate/Intubate DNR DNI and Medical Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment MOLST documentation
\n
• Manages medical/surgical patient care including emergencies requiring BLS/ACLS/PALS if adult or family NP
\n
• Performs Trauma assessments/reassessments following ATLS Trauma Team
\n
• Performs peri and intraoperative assessments/reassessments
\n
• Performs peri and intraprocedure assessments/reassessments
\n
• Rounds with physicians and other hospital staff
\n
• Orders applies reapplies and removes restraints
\n
• Documents in patient chart or the computer all pertinent patient information following departmental and hospital policies and using the CDI education
\n
• Writes legibly
\n
• Dates times and signs all chart entries
\n
• Uses name stamp
\n
• Documents any patient or family education
\n
• Documents results of tests ordered or disposition of care
\n
• Completes all procedure notes
\n
• Documents communication nbsp;with physicians
\n
• Signs dates times verbal/telephone orders by the end of each shift
\n
• Fully completes and submits billing forms by the end of each shift
\n
• Completes discharge documentation including discharge/transfer summaries discharge instructions writing/issuing discharge orders prescriptions and any other associated documentation required for discharge
\n

Technical Procedures

\n

\n
• Explains procedure to patient/family
\n
• Uses sterile technique including barrier precautions when needed
\n
• Performs procedures such as IV insertion foley catheter insertion naso/oro gastric tube insertion central venous line removal etc
\n
• Sutures/ provides wound care
\n
• Splints
\n
• Assists in surgery
\n
• Assists with cardiac catheterizations
\n
• Performs CAT scan/MRI injections
\n
• Performs other radiological injections such as nuclear studies
\n
• Performs invasive procedures such as PICC insertion central venous line insertion chest tube insertion
\n
• Performs surgical procedures such as chest tube removal drain removal etc
\n
• Assists radiologist with procedures such as biopsies drainage procedures special procedures etc
\n
• Performs radiological procedures such as paracentesis thoracentesis etc
\n

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Graduate of NP educational program approved by the State of New York Current NP certification from either the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center Bachelors and Masters degrees Current New York State license as registered nurse and NP Current Basic Life Support BLS from AHA Current Advanced Life Support ACLS from AHA Current Pediatric Life Support PALS from AHA Current New York State prescription privilege Current DEA number Current New York State Infection Control training certification Current member of American Academy of Nurse Practitioners AANP Current member of Nurse Practitioner Association of New York State NPA Requires the psychomotor skills including walking and use of hands to perform examinations and procedures The interpersonal and customer service skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients their family members physicians nursing and other Hospital personnel when exchanging patient status care and treatment information Requires the ability to recognize and address the psychosocial needs of patients and their families and the ability and skills necessary to attend to special needs relating to the patients age and diagnosis The ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately seventy five percent of work time for responsibilities such as providing patient care operating and monitoring equipment and recording data in patient charts The ability to walk and stand for approximately seventy five percent of work time and to lift pull push and/or carry items such as equipment weighing up to twenty pounds or patients on stretchers for approximately twenty five percent of work time when providing patient care Basic computer skills in email scanning Word PowerPoint and Excel.

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $85.60 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
