Description
As a Physician Assistant at our Ankeny location, you will provide our patients the orthopedic care they need to get back to daily life and the activities they love. You will have rotations in the Operating Room and in the Clinic. You will be an important part of a care team working directly with one surgeon. No two days are the same working alongside an Orthopaedic Surgeon who supports a community in need of care.
Here's What You Can Expect
A fast-paced, specialized learning environment. You'll spend part of your week in the OR and the other part in the clinic working directly with the Orthopaedic Surgeon in the Sports Medicine Specialty. This is an opportunity to gain rare, hands-on surgical experience working one-on-one with a surgeon.
You will work together to assess and treat patients. Starting with training where you work 1-1 with the doctor, you will participate in assessment, referral, education, follow up, patient administration and assist in operations in either an Ambulatory Surgery Center or Hospital Setting.
You will partner with an orthopaedic surgeon who you will support on-call requirements. Most physicians require support for one on-call day each week and one weekend every six to eight weeks. Our rotation schedule requires that everyone do their part to help everyone create work life balance.
You will act as the patient's kind guide during their intake and follow-up appointments, asking questions to diagnose then explaining the next steps in a clear way for treatment of their orthopaedic injury or condition.
Being on your feet all day, sometimes assisting in transporting, positioning, or holding patients when necessary.
What We're Looking For
A Master's Degree from an accredited Physicians Assistant program and a License to practice in the state of Iowa. Our in-house credentialing team can help you obtain the DEA and CSA.
Ability to communicate calmly and provide reassurance when patients are nervous.
You practice the art of listening, asking clarifying questions, and avoiding interrupting your patient.
For credentialing at a hospital, you must be up to date on vaccinations and meet all requirements necessary for credentialing. No ortho experience is required.
